Crafty recycling

You don't recycle? Oh no!

I'm a big fan of recycling. Huge, actually. One of my biggest challenges, though, is recycling clothing. I mend as much as I can but I always have a hard time throwing away clothing that is too worn/stained/etc to be donated. I can only have so many "painting shirts" or cleaning rags around the house at any given time. I'm not sure why I have issues with putting cloth items in the trash. I guess it's just a quirk of mine.

Recently my husband wanted to throw away a pair of pants that were beyond repair. As I rescued them from the top of the trash can, I noticed that the shape of the legs was just the right size for a toddler's skirt:

So I went to work...

...and created this in about 2 hours.

You can see a couple more photos on my flickr account (link on the sidebar). The only thing I purchased was the ribbon for trim. Now, Miss E has a new-for-her skirt for less than $1. Hello Kitty thinks that's a good deal.

The end!

Or a new beginning?

You are just too crafty for words! So cute.

I'm having all kinds of trouble getting rid of clothes before this move as well. If only I had your skills.

What a great idea! It turned out so cute. I never would have thought of doing that, you must have a special crafty eye! I love it. She looks so beautiful. I'll have to pass this tip on to a few friends.
I usually send the girls clothes to the kids I work with. They are always in need of clothing. I have the students come to my office (privately) and pick out what they like. They get so excited. I bring in purses, rings, necklaces, etc. Things my girls just don't need any more.
Have a good week!!

That is so cute! I never would have thought of that! Hmmmm. . I have a pair of brown cords with a giant rip in the butt. Maybe I should send them to you to make a cute brown skirt for little Miss E. I have the same thing about throwing away clothes, no matter how old and holey (thus the holy pants).

Just because I am extremely jealous please don't stop posting pictures of all the amazing things you can do. I enjoy knowing that someone is that talented, even if it's not me.

That is so adorable! I have some clothes that I should do that to also. You have such great ideas. I will just take something she currently wears and use that as a pattern!

That is very cute!! You're so talented.

I have a hard time throwing clothes away, also. I'm not quite sure why, but I'm like you, I have a huge pile of "rag" cloths, most of which we could never use even if we tried.
